Safeguarding and confidentiality
1. Professional Standards & Supervision
I am a member of the the BABCP and adhere to their Ethical Framework. To ensure I am providing the best possible care, I participate in regular professional supervision. During these sessions, I may discuss our work; however, your identity is always kept anonymous, and my supervisor is also bound by strict professional confidentiality.
2. The Limits of Confidentiality
Your privacy is my priority. Everything we discuss in our sessions is confidential, with the following legal and ethical exceptions:
-
Risk of Serious Harm: If I believe there is a significant risk of serious harm to yourself or others.
-
Safeguarding: If I become aware of a safeguarding concern involving a child or a vulnerable adult.
-
Legal Obligations: If I am legally required to disclose information by a court of law, or if I am made aware of specific crimes such as terrorism, money laundering, or drug trafficking.
-
GP Contact: I generally hold your GP’s details as a safety precaution. I would usually discuss any contact with your GP with you first, unless it is a life-threatening emergency.
3. Session Logistics & Communication
-
The Therapeutic Hour: Sessions last for 55 minutes and usually occur weekly unless an alternative frequency is arranged
-
Digital Privacy: If we meet online, you agree to be in a private, secure space where you cannot be overheard.
-
Between Sessions: My email and phone are for administrative purposes (scheduling) only. I do not provide a crisis service. If you are in immediate distress, please contact 111, 999, or the Samaritans (116 123).
4. Cancellations & Payments
-
Payment: Fees are £65 per session, payable via bank transfer at least 24 hours before our appointment.
-
Cancellation Policy: To maintain a sustainable practice, I operate a cancellation policy, the details of which can be found on the relevant page. Sessions are to be paid for in advance and payment must be made before 6am of the day of the session.
-
Holidays: I will provide at least 2 weeks notice of any planned breaks.
5. Professional Will (Clinical Executor)
In accordance with UK professional guidelines, I have appointed a Professional Executor. In the unlikely event of my sudden incapacity or death, this person would be granted limited access to your contact details to inform you and, if requested, help you find alternative support.
6. Ending our Work
Therapy usually ends by mutual agreement. I recommend at least one "closing session" to process our work together rather than ending abruptly. I reserve the right to terminate therapy if I believe my services are no longer clinically appropriate or if there is a breach of these terms (such as attending sessions under the influence of alcohol or drugs or inappropriate contact outside of the session).
